Got summer travel plans? Winter river trips are special, but let’s face it, you’re tired of winter and ready for the summer season—fishing, swimming, plowing through Class IV whitewater, tubing, even searching for shark teeth—or any of the hundreds of other ways the public enjoys our national wild and scenic rivers.
We’ll help you plan, if we can, but you really have to reach out to the local managers with trip questions. For example, if you’re headed to the Kern River, figure out who is the land manager for the spot you want to visit (e.g., Sequoia National Forest), and reach out to the forest. We’ve made improvements, and every river has local contact information. Only the locals can advise you of current conditions. Only the locals know if roads are washed out, campgrounds closed, or fire conditions. Only the locals know where you can go fishing or if permits are required. The locals can also tell you about any special events happening on their park or forest.
