While Florida’s rivers aren’t very geomorphically diverse, the plant and animal life they support is astounding, with the famous “River of Grass”—the Everglades—topping the list. Almost as famous are the manatees of the Crystal River. Along the way, there are any number of less famous, but equally as interesting, blackwater sloughs, bayous, and streams to explore.
Florida has approximately 25,949 miles of river, of which 49.2 miles are designated as wild and scenic—approximately 1/5th of 1% of the state’s river miles.
