Awards Nominations

March 26, 2024

“Don't worry when you are not recognized but strive to be worthy of recognition.” – Abraham Lincoln (Attributed)

It’s awards season in Hollywood and the music industry. While recognizing those who manage and protect the country’s rivers, including those in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, doesn’t generate the interest of the Academy Awards, perhaps it should. But we might be biased. Nonetheless, now is the time to nominate those who have made outstanding contributions in 2023.

A River Runs Through It won the 1993 Academy Award for Best Cinematography, no doubt in part to the spectacular Montana scenery. However, neither the Blackfoot River, where the book is set, nor the Gallatin River, where most of the fishing scenes were shot, are protected in the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System. Efforts are underway to protect part of the Gallatin River.
